There are a few things you can try. But if your body or baby aren't ready, then nothing will work short of medical induction.

First, let me say that I feel your pain. I've never been overdue, but with my last, I had heavy contractions for 2 weeks before I was induced. I've also seen so many patients that are overdue, so I feel for you. Now on to the good stuff!!

I have to say DON'T TRY CASTOR OIL OR NIPPLE STIMULATION!!!!!! Let me explain why. Castor oil is a laxative. In other words, it will make you poop, but it can be worse then that. It can cause horrible stomach cramps, not uterine cramps, and can cause diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms. Nipple stimulation should only be done with the advice of a doctor, with them watching you to make sure that things don't go wrong. Nipple stimulation can cause really strong contractions that will hurt, but won't help labor along. There you go.. all the things not to do!! Now onto the stuff you should do.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk!!!!!! Walking not only brings the babies head down further into the pelvis, but can release endorphines, which will help you feel better. Exercise can also cause contractions to start. It helps get the ocytocin flowing, so to say.

Have sex. Sounds weird, but there are prostoglandins in semen that help to soften the cervix. Also, orgasm for you can cause contractions to start, there by releasing ocytocin into the system, which is the hormone that triggers labor.

There are accupressure points you can try. One on each hand, between the thumb and first finger. There is some skin webbing there, press and hold with the thumb and first finger of you other hand for 20-30 seconds at a time. Release and press again. Do this for 20-30 minutes at a time. There is also one 2 finger widths up from your ankle. On either side, there is an indentation. Press that indentation on either side and hold for 20-30 seconds. Do the same for this as for the other one.

You can try Evening primrose oil. It comes in either caplets or the oil itself. Since you are overdue and having been taking it orally, I would suggest inserting a caplet into your vagina, up by your cervix before you do to bed. It will disolve and the oil will help soften the cervix.

Good luck!!! I hope you go into labor really soon!!!!

As long as your cervix has not been scrapped SEX and lots of it is what my doctor told me. It worked. I was a week overdue, in the middle of August and thought I was going to die of heat stroke (no a/c) So we filled up the tub with cold water and played Marco polo for 2 hours than presto 12:04 that night I had an 8''14oz healthy baby boy

take a long walk, my sister tried the caster oil but it didn't work. I have 4 kids and walking worked with the first 3. You really do not want to be induced if you can avoid it. I was induced with my last one and it did go a bit faster but it was TERRIBLE!
Best of luck to you and congratulations!

Ask the doctor to induce you so that way the it will send you into labor. Then you know the baby should come!

first of all, when i had stretchy, stringy discharge, i thought my water was leaking. so we went to the hospital. have u checked with your doc about that? do so immediately. second, have you looked into shiatsu massage. some massage therapists are trained in shiatsu. it's a type of massage that uses pressure points. one of my teachers told us about how she uses shiatsu to induce labor, but only in women who are overdue. she said they usually go into labor within 24 hours of the session. u may need ur doc's permission, tho.

Walk. We took a friend of my mom's hiking when her labor first started and she gave birth that night.

Castor oil does NOT work. It induces agony, but not labour. Have sex, eat eggplant parmigana, take a long walk.

Doctors can handle this with medicines only. All other practical methods are perilous. So watch out what you are doing.... Consult your doctor speialist.
