Well, it's the Ex, right? If she still loves him and he left her and broke her heart, I would feel he's a jerk and would't fall in love with him anyway.
But if she left him, or they parted amiably, I would expect my best friend to understand and not stand in the way of my happiness.

it is only okay if the best friend says it's okay and there was not a serious relationship... if the best friend loved the ex or vice versa, if the best friend was intimate for the first time with this ex, or if the best friend even KINDA likes the ex... it's ALWAYS no, no matter what. best friends are supposed to guard each other's feelings in matters of the heart. you NEVER risk TRUE FRIENDSHIP for what may or may not be love...

I've done that in the past and fortunately the friendship with my best friend lasted beyond the "true love", but the friendship was never the same, and over the years we've really just grown apart. I regret it, but the feeling of true love just won't play second fiddle to anything or anyone.

Oh my ......
Perhaps speak with your friend first,
you never want to lay a false foundation
when it comes to friendships,
if your friendship is indeed one you consider
a best-friend relationship, then let the friend
know whats on your mind, show her you are
making an effort to be out in the open, with good
friends there is a necessity to have honesty,
you say risk friendship for true love //..
Do you know for sure it is true love or one great
big crush due to attraction? Definitions for the heart
discipline the mind, conscience for the mind keeps
the circle of friendship trustworthy, so, one would
have to weigh out whats best for all concerned,
your friendship, your heart, you mind & thoughts if
what is to unfold will cause conflict or friction ...
Even itty bitty hearts can break !!
Also ask the male in question how his feelings are
concerning his break-up !! Was it mutual? Was there
friction or betrayed associations which destroyed
their partnership, not wise to leap about from people
to people without truly knowing all the facts about what
was the cause & effect to each of their hearts and minds..
I mean these impressions of true love and best-friends
in reference to the centres of our hearts need to be clear
to everyone in question. Friends can be great people together,
yet each still have their own personalities, one does not want
to create contradictions in a friendship or a potential love match,
one needs to avoid harmful effects to all concerned ...
Everyone needs to stay happy !!!!
and ..... safe .......
smile ..

If you're a guy, this is common behavior. AND you're SUPPOSED to remain FRIENDS with the guy, after he screws you over.

Women are much easier in this aspect. If you date a female friend's ex, they pretty much cut you out of their lives, inform all your other female friends on what you've done, and you have to start from scratch with a new social circle. SO, think carefully before doing this. Is it really worth your entire social life????

there would have to be a 'strong' bond to the man that i know without a shadow of a doubt that he is the 'one'. i married my best friends ex matter of fact, ha, but thats when she was 14 or 15, we are still friends, it really depends on your relationship with your friend too.

You should talk to your best friend about this and see if she is ok with it. If so, then date him if not, it comes down to best friend or ex-friend.

It seems lame to me, really lame! Unless it is such true love that you think this is the person you may be with forever. Than I think the friend needs to be told and well ... hey c'est la vie!
