You don't have to be licensed, but it's more difficult than it looks. I did my own... I bought all the right stuff... Autoclave, machine , power source, killer inks, needles, soaps, sterilizing solutions, repair kit, cups, cup holder... Over a grand $$$ ! I had been making artwork for years and can draw very well, so I thought...EASY! It took be a week of testing to get solid lines and decent fills. The work looks ok, but not like a pro. Some people are intimidated by my tattoos because it looks like I don't give a F--K! But if I were to do it over I'd find someone who's work I really liked and pay them to teach my while they gave me some quality looking ink. Anyway whatever you decide, it's your body, just be safe. Good Luck. Oh, check out http://www.papillonsupply.com/
P.S. Don't call it a gun! It's a machine, some artists get pissed about that. Guns kill people.

I would try getting on by a professional first. If you don't want to do that call your local tatoo shop and they can tell you where to order one and of course there is always ebay

Do a web search of tattoo supplies, there are plenty of companies that can help you out. But first learn how to spell tattoo...
