I don't know of anyone who believes that no logging should ever take place.

I have heard from people who believe that current logging practices are destroying forests far faster than they can regrow. There are also people who believe that even when corporations cut and then replant, they do it in a far more damaging manner than they need to. Some people also think that nature preserves are important for ecological reasons and should not be exploited for economic gain.

I think we'd be better off if we didn't allow economics to dictate our every move.

Because there is nothing appropriate or better to replace them (unless you got ideas that nobody's heard of). Have you ever even BEEN to a logged landsite? In the tropics, wild plants quickly grow in, still the area's delicate ecological balance is ruined anyways. But in the temperate regions, its way worse. NOTHING grows in quickly and the top soil gets blown or eroded away. Sure we need the wood, but no balance is being achieved. That's why forests shouldnt be logged. We dont know yet how to do it well.

logging affects more than just the tree. Trees are an environment for hundreds sometimes thousands of species that are all within a food chain vital to the survival of forest. Forest are environmentally connected to the earth, and weather. Everything is a cycle, from the soil, the plant, to the air we breath and the clouds, condensation, water supplies, rivers, lakes, etc...it's all connected.

hemp is an easy replacement for logging for paper and such.
hemp grows twice as fast and is twice as durable. it's easy to cultivate and doesn't have to be a "smoking" plant to be a very useful resource instead of trees. it's a fact.
danger.

Well, first factor is the oxygen the forest provides us. Secondly, if there is no trees/plants to take in all the Carbon Dioxide(CO2) that we humans produce in factories and such. THen global warming because CO2 is a heat trapping gas, which will trap all the heat from the sun to the surface of the earth. This could possibly throw the earth into another ice age.

Animals live there 1st of all.
Floods will come easily if too many trees are removed.
Trees and the small plants that grow around them filter the water before it hits the oceans, rivers, and lakes...
....and water moves faster through nothing than through a Forrest.
Then your termites and other insects that need the decaying lumber will move into your yard!
The climate in those areas will rise slightly, and you might not be able to fight off pollution as easily after those fresh oxygen givers are cut down.

Not only can it totally mess up the habitat inside of the forest but it'd known to take away the nutrients inside of the soil. It causes erosion and if you go too close to the water than it can make sediment fall into water - which is not good.

Controlled logging is okay. Indiscriminate logging leads to erosion which in turn can cause mudslides. Trees provide oxygen and helps cool the atmosphere.

There's no reason they shouldn't be, as long as they are replanted. As for the one person mentioning oxygen, if they actually knew what they were talking about, they'd realize that most of the oxygen comes from ocean plant life. Let's see. more water than land. Yup, sounds right to me.

Trees are beautiful. Trees are responsible for oxygen production. Trees are sources of shelter for animals.
