Isn't that the most outrageous thing you have ever heard!!! Charging them?? Every other country has gotten their citizens out quickly and quietly and AT NO CHARGE!!!This is embarrassing and unconscionable. How can GWB even think of that?? Even the Republicans can't defend this one!! Wow I am floored!!

I agree with Jack F! While I hope every American makes out it quickly and unharmed, they chose to travel to an unstable country. If they were there on business, I am sure their companies will pay their evacuation costs. Evacuating some 8000 Americans costs money, and why should tax dollars be used for this? I am glad the government is helping them leave Lebanon and I fully support charging them a reasonable fee.

Tony Snow would like for us to call it "reimbursement."
For those who were unaware, "To get on the ship, Americans must sign a note pledging to reimburse the U.S. government. They will be charged the cost of a single commercial flight from Beirut to Cyprus — usually about $150 or $200, although officials refused to specify. If they have no way to fly onward, they also will be asked to reimburse the cost of an airline ticket from Cyprus to the United States."
EDIT: I just saw on CNN that Congress was not too fond of this action and it has now been decided that Americans escaping the war zone will no longer be forced to pay their way.

First of all, its embarrass, not imbarrass. Your poor spelling should "imbarrass" you.
2nd, no one told americans to live there, it was their choice. I dont want my tax dollars to pay for their transit, I want them to pay for it. Hooray Bush!
France is a socialist state, where the government is the Parents of the people. In america, the government is not our mummies and dadda's. We are adult people and we should be treated as such.
Only liberals expect their government to always "take care" of them. You pathetic losers have no self pride, and are nothing but a bunch of crying babies.
