My ex used to get really bad cramps. Heating pads and hot water bottles really helped on top of motrin/advil/ibuprofin. As already suggested, tea is another thing that helped her out.

Another thing that seemed to help her was she would lay down and I would give her a massage, starting from around the belly button to just below where the sides of your pelvic bone are, on the outside of the stomach area (nothing sexual). This seemed to help her out a lot during the bad months.

Here's what works for me is the following
(Not all done during the same day, but can be)

1) Take some asprin (I know U know)
2) Drink some ginger ale
3) Take a book or something to do and a water bottle and sit on the toilet till you fart, poop or feel a bit better. (I know it sounds gross but, in addition to cramps ya might have gas or have to poop and it's not coming out. Hurts like HECK!!)(The water bottle is there just in case UR there for a while and you need something to drink but can't or don't feel like getting up)

4) Gently massage cramping area (sometimes works)
5) Heating pads (I know U know)
6) Get in bed and find a comfortable position to lay in and watch TV, take a nap, or do something to get your mind off of the cramps. (I don't know about you, but the tend to hurt less when I'm not thinking about it)

7) Have some soup
8) Loosen any tight clothing or put on your pajamas

Try it. It works for me.

I had really bad cramps growing up also. Still do but it's not as bad as say child birth so it doesn't bother me as bad now. But....What I do for cramps is drink hot tea (any flavor will do as it is the heat that helps) or eat hot soup. I curl up in a chair and read a book (distraction works wonders believe it or not). Surprisingly enough, exercise also helps. Also if you sit on the floor "Indian style" and put your elbows behind your ankle on your heel, there is a pressure point there that helps cramps.

Never eat anything cold. Doesn't let the blood flow as easily. Just lie down, rest. I like drinking hot cocoa usually. I used to get them REALLY bad but my mom now has me drinking Chinese herbal stuff when I don't have my period so it doesn't hurt so much anymore. Good luck and I hope you feel better. People tell me that exercising is good but I never do that because I'm always in too much pain. In the 7th grade, I had such bad cramps I got nauseous and dizzy and threw up in class. Not fun.

1) sleep
2) crave foods( that's not really a solution)
3)exercise(sports)
4) hot bath
5)take pills (i take Motrin. other pills include Midol, Advil, Aleve, and Tylenol)
hope you feel better!! :)

Going on the pill helps; not only will it keep you regular and help with cramps, it will also help with pimples or acne, if you have problems there.

But if you're uncomfortable about going on the pill, then try this: at the FIRST sign you're on your period (ex. the first spot of blood you see), take something for it (I take advil) IMMEDIATELY, even if your cramps have not started. That way, it nips the pain in the bud right away.

stay away from drugs. "the pill" causes far more problems than solutions...i went on it when i was in high school, and i suffer from MANY problems now. don't listen to all the bs from docs and commericials...

here are some things that i used to do when i was a teen with horrible cramps...

1.) sleep
2.) a hot bath
3.) tea with honey and lemon (go to whole foods or a health store...they make tea for this!)
4.) warm milk with a lil sugar and butter (tastes like a latte...my gram from Italy used to make me drink this...it helps with sore throats too!
4.) EXERCISE! it moves your muscles and releases endorphins which make you feel better.
5.) a chocolate mocha latter (chocolate for the endorphins and caffeine for the pain) (caffeine is in mortin/midol!)

My cramps come from cool knees and feet. So you can try getting them warm. But if the pain super intense and is surging down your legs, see a doctor.
