What do you like to read is more like it? When people come to me for a book selection, that usually is my first question. The reason is this: what someone thinks is "good" someone else does not like.

Based only on the questions that you ask (1 cooking, and the other RPG) here are some suggestions:

1. Phantom by Terry Goodkind
2. The George R.R. Martin Series
3. Heat: An Amateur's Adventures as Kitchen Slave, Line Cook, Pasta-Maker, and Apprentice to a Dante-Quoting Butcher in Tuscany by Bill Buford
4.Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain

I hope this helps.

What genre(s) do you enjoy?

Do you love a nail-biting suspense? Gory horror? Comedic romance? Think of movies you like. Are they based on books? If so, I'd start there and try those out, or other titles by those authors.

Are you a fan of reality tv and/or the news? If so, try a biography on your favorite musician, actor/actress, celebrity, etc.

I'd suggest going to your local bookstore and looking through the sections. What jumps out at you? Find the type of book you want, then explore the various authors.

I don't know what types of books you like, but some books I've really enjoyed are:
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
books by Charles Palliser
books by Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs (if you like forensic-type mysteries)
