First off, they were never close to putting Vince out of business. Did he take a ratings hit, sure, but Bischoff started the death of WCW when he would announce the results of Raw's matches during Nitro (remember, Raw used to not be live, it was taped earlier that evening).
As for your question about the matches, that's tough because a lot of the WCW stars are actually in TNA right now and wouldn't be able to do a WWE sanctioned show. But if I were allowed to use both rosters to put together a show, I would like to see these matches...
Kevin Nash vs. Scott Steiner
Jeff Jarrett vs. Chris Benoit
Booker T vs. Monte Brown
Rey Mysterio vs. Billy Kidman
Sting vs. The Big Show
Ric Flair vs. Alex Wright (I know Alex isn't wrestling right now, but this would be a funny match, the inevitable Flair flop when he got his *** kicked in a corner, and Alex Wright dancing all over to that stupid techno music that he always walked down the aisl too)
