Your computer BIOS is not part of Windows XP, but rather your motherboard in your computer. Depending on the computer it could be any of several different keys. Usually you will see a message saying what key to press to enter setup (or BIOS). The most common ones I see are:

Delete, F2, F10, F12

If you mean the BIOS menu with all the confguration for hardware, memory, and hard drives, it is usually DEL or F1 immediately following the initial startup beep. I hit both of them repeatedly, because I often cannot see anything on the monitor at that stage. Once you've got it, the CMOS Configuration screen displays and you're in.

If you need to change a BIOS/CMOS password because you've forgotten it, the only other recourse is to open the computer and either short the CMOS jumper or remove and put in the round lithium battery on the circuit board.

Hope this helped a bit,

Andy

bios is separate from operating system. On some systems, you click f2 while starting up, others you click del key, and still others f10. A neat trick to force the bios to surface is too lift a memory stick from the system or install a secondary hard or CD drive.

it's "delete" key during startup.. f8 is safe mode bootup.

my HP is F2 as well...but it should tell you at the bottom left side of start screen which to use.
