There's a type of wood called ebony that's a very dark brown to black. It's very hard and durable, and is used for the black keys on pianos and the fingerboards of violins.
Ebony as a color is just black, named so after the wood.

Ebony is a solid brown, which leans toward a light black. Its dark in nature, yet based on brown, so its techinically not a black. Its a very dark brown. Just like a black marker isn't truly a black, its either a concentrated blue, or a concentrated purple.
I don't have to look it up, I know color theory like the back of my hand and i own a loupe, used for looking at colors in printing.
