Bush does what he thinks is right and just, not what is popular.
A LEADER isn't someone who follows the crowd, or who runs to get in front of the parade. No, a leader has a vision, and tries to pull the crowd to follow him.

You mean like Congress says it's ok to own people as slaves and a President veto's it for moral or religious reasons?
Bush is about to do something similar with the stem cell bill.
I don't think he's right or it's the right thing to do, but he has the option and it's his view and it's shared by some. All it will do is delay things a bit.
It's an interesting part of our checks and balances.
When the UN was first established the US wanted the main power broker nations to have "veto" power, because the US was afraid Russia (USSR) would try and put through measures that were good for their political aims. The funny thing was from 1945 until 1965 the US never once used a veto and the USSR did all the time to stop US backed programs that would aid our political aims!
Funny how things you want come back to bite you!
Congress wants to pass a law banning flag burning or putting the word GOD into things like the Pledge and it's up to a President or Supreme Court to exercise "the right thing to do" even if all the people are behind it.
The most interesting thing is how people appointed by extreme Presidents sometimes become embarassments once in a job like Supreme Court justice.
The movie Becket is a very good example of how the King's best buddy changes tone once the King makes them the supreme religious leader. All of a sudden good times are out the door and the person acts based upon supreme beliefs, rather than as a "good ol boy."

Being as he's an idiot in the first place and a Bible-beater as well, could you expect him to do anything else? He doesn't give a d*** what the American people think - the only things that are important are whats important to his Christian right (which is neither Christian, nor right) consituency. I assume you're referring to his planned veto of the stem cell research bill and he's gone on for 6 long years about how that's murder. What a fool!!
Its fairly obvious by the Congressional vote - since the Congress supposedly represents the people - that the majority of Americans are in favor of this bill, but does Bush care? Of course not! The stem cells will be destroyed if not used in research, but it makes no difference to him - he keeps yelling about its murder if the cells are used in research. What is it if they're destroyed, you blithering idiot?
Bush is without a doubt, not representing the majority of the American people and is the worst President in the history of this country - and there have been some real winners.

I would respect him/her more as a leader if they aren't affraid to go against the flow and do what they condsider right. You don't want a "yes man" sitting atop the US government.
If the American people truly want the bill the pass, they will pressure their legislators until they secure the needed 2/3 majority. Checks and balances in action is a beautiful thing. The framers of the Constitution truly were men of genius.

I call him a man of his convictions. He does what he feels is right and isn't going to be pressured by public opinion to do something he feels is wrong. That is exactly what he was elected to do and as President he should do what he feels is right and what the American people voted him into office to do.
Way to go George! Keep up the great work!
