Most doctors recommend that you wait until the first day of your missed period before taking a home pregnancy test. This is usually around two weeks after conception. However, some tests are more sensitive than others and can be taken earlier. If you follow all instructions religiously and interpret the results correctly, home pregnancy tests are 97% accurate. A blood test administered by your doctor is more sensitive than the early home tests and can be taken between seven and twelve days after you conceive

It's not after sex that you should take a pregnancy test, it's after you ovulate since that is the only way you can get pregnant. However some women have irregular cycles and don't know when they ovulate so the best thing to do is either get an ovulation test kit or wait until your next period is due. The earliest a pregnancy test can be taken is a few days before your period is due. But the best thing to do is to wait until after your period is due for the best results.

It's hard to say if you have irregular cycles, but you can always test around the time when you think you're due. Make sure you buy tests that are very sensitive to hcg. The 99 Cent Only Stores carry tests that are extremely sensitive (more sensitive than those in drug stores) and they're only, yes, 99 cents! If you can buy those, you can test everyday without breaking the bank. Good luck!

Some tests are more accurate than others and can give you accurate results before you actually miss a period, but you should wait at least until the date you expect your period or you may get a false reading.

I took one four days before I was due.. negative. But three weeks later... postive! It was great news! Note that you may have light bleeding around your due date! It does not last, if you have that take one!
Good luck!
