It is a well-known Chinese Yin Yang symbol. Sometimes it's called Tai-Chi symbol. The Tai-Chi is from I-Ching. The I-Ching is the greatest foundation of Chinese philosophy. It’s development is from the natural phenomena of our universe. Because I-Ching comes from nature, it should be easy.
It means that everything good (the white half) has something bad (the black dot) and everything bad (the black half) has something good (the white dot)---in layman terms.

This symbol is known as the "yin-yang". The Yin and the Yang stands for the equal balance between any two things, life and death, and the classic meaning- Good Versus Evil. The dots of opposite coloring means that you can't have the good without the bad, yet you cannot have the bad without the good. There's always a trace of each other in it's counterpart. By the way, this symbol is actually an ancient symbol from China.

Yin and Yang, The yin (I think it is the white side) represents the female side. The Yang represents the male. The dots show that nothing is completely Yin or Yang. We all have some male and female within. Peace to you.

It is called the circle of life. It represents heaven and earth. A lot of people call it the Ying Yang sign, but that is actually incorrect. This symbol also represents the Ying and the Yang but it is not actually the "Ying Yang Sign".

It does not exaclty represent peace. It represents the harmony in life. Such as the two natures of "hot" and "cold" can coexist, each in its own time and place. Your sharing side and your selfish side can exist in you without conflict. There a times and places where you can and will share, and there will be a time and place for you to look out for yourself.
