I do most of my colors in cold water, and have been using that new Tide....it seems okay, but I wonder if its just a gimmick. Maybe I could probably be getting the same results with the big ol' tank of Kirkland (Costco brand) detergent?

Probably was developed to be more soluble in cold water more than anything. If you can't tell and it costs more...then forget it. I've had cheap detergents do a number on clothes..like it causes the material to dry out and deteriorate.

Hey..I'm a guy, but I still have to wash my own clothes :)

I tried the stuff and it does work, but the cost sucks. I used the kirkland brand because it's cheap and it works just as well. Little hint though, don't overdo the kirkland in a cold wash- I found that it leaves a funny feel to my clothes if I wash with too much detergent.

If the Costco brand (I think that is like a Sam's; we don't have those in the North East) is a liquid, then I'd say no. If you can get powder, yes. You can use any "TIDE" detergent in cold water. Yes, it's a gimmick.

Actually, only about 15% of the cleaning power in a washing machine is the detergent. The other 85% is the machine itself. Using cold water is best for your clothes. Spot treat any stains or spills and then wash in cold. Washing in hotter water and using more or more powerful detergents will make your clothes fade and wear out faster.

I have used the cold water Tide. I feel it does work a bit better. Also, cold water is better for your clothing, and as previously stated it does not shrink your clothing. Also, by not using hot water, you will save yourself considerable money on your electric and or gas bill. Your hot water heater is usually one of your biggest users of electricity (if using an electric water heater). Also, if you are on well water, it takes a lot longer for the water to heat up because it is about 55 degrees when it enters the tank. Verses city water which is generally about 10-15 degrees warmer.

I say it*s a gimmick; I use regular Era detergent in cold water and my clothes are just as clean as when I tried the cold water Tide. They are both liquid, they both dissolve it water, they both clean. But the difference in price it the gimmick.

I've used regular detergent in my cold laundry forever (Most of my clothes specify to wash cold). I guess maybe that stuff is good if your clothes are supposed to be warm but you're doing them cold? I don't know, I'll stick to regular I think (we use Costco sometimes too!).
