i am planning to go to a community college because i want to transfer to a very good school after..(i dont have the grades to get in now) i have around a 3.5.. not good enough for UC's .. should i even bother taking the sat?

Yes. It's not like you have anything to lose by taking it. It may come in handy when you are going to transfer. A 3.5 isn't that bad if you're taking advanced classes. With a good SAT score you may even qualify for some partial scholarships at some schools. You can check school gpa and test averages at collegeboard.org or princetonreview.com. What do you mean by "UC" (University of Cincinnati or University of California)?College Board also offers a free SAT practice Exam, and an SAT question of the day. If you're going to buy a practice book I suggest buying "The Real SAT," "Princeton Review SAT," or "Kaplan's SAT Practice."

I do not see why you think 3.5 is "not good enough" for UC. If you have a strong SAT score to go with it, you are qualified to be admitted. It may not be automatic admission, but it would be admission nonetheless.

You should ABSOLUTELY take the SAT I test. Apply to UC, and who knows? You might just get in. There are many community colleges that have "automatic" transfers to UC campuses, you may want to look into those as well.
