What would be the best advice to give a first year college student trying to enter med-school?

Take all your science classes but make sure to have a major or minor in something other that straight science.
The med schools are trying to get a "broader" scope of student and they look highly on having other fields of study.
Also, volunteer at the hospital or something along those lines.
