Hezbollah is a group that is kind of like 'stationed' in Lebanon. Some consider them a terrorist group but not like Al Qu. because they focus on Israel much like the Palestines. They also play a role in the Lebonese government.

Israel was at war with the Hez. group up until 1994 (date is somewhere around there) when they had a sieze fire. If I'm not mistaken Clinton was involved in that.

Ok now, basically out of nowhere Hez. comes across the Israeli border and kidnaps some soldiers then commences to start sending a few missiles into Israel's 3rd largerst city.

Israel then used it's air force to start bombing the Hez. main base in Lebanon. When you use bombs from planes, like we did in Iraq, you end up with a lot of collateral damage... innocent ppl dieing. So, this has gotten the actual lebanese ppl ticked off too because a lot of non-Hez. are dieing.

Also, the weapons that Hez. suddenly seems to have (the aerial missiles) appear to all be coming from Iran. Some are suspecting Syria is supporting them also. This is complicating the issue enormously.

Lastly, the most current problem is that Israel is no longer willing to just accept the return of its soldiers. They are now so ticked off and tired of this repeating itself that they are talking about not quitting until Hez. is completely disarmed and demobilized. I heard this myself tonight right out of the mouth of Dan Gillerman, Israeli ambassador to the UN, in a Charlie Rose interview on PBS.

So, this basically means WW3

Lebanon attacked Israel and now Israel is crushing Lebanon until they agree to return the hostages they took and to deploy their military to keep Hezbollah off the border with Israel. Sounds reasonable. But Lebanon isn't reasonable and they refuse to do this.

So Israel is in the process of cutting Hezbollah (Hezbollah is part of the government of Lebanon I might add) off from aid, searching door to door for their citizens, seizing weapons and probably wiping out Hezbollah to the last man.

It's real simple. The muslims either make peace or they are dead. They seem to be choosing death. Good riddance.

Israel has done everything it could to keep the peace. They gave up chunks of their territory and even bulldozed their own settlements and turned the land over to the Arabs. But the suicide bombers kept coming in and the missiles were still being fired into Israel. As a last resort, they even built a wall to keep out terrorists but that didn't work either. Now the terrorists have kidnapped Israeli soldiers and continue to bombard them with missiles. Nothing will satisfy them except the destruction of Israel. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and is surrounded on all sides by countries that allow terrorists to control them, the same terrorists that attacked us, Britain, India and other countries. Israel has a right to defend itself. They are doing what we should be doing -- destroying terrorist headquarters and training grounds.

surely Israel isn't struggling with with Lebanon. that is making an attempt to root out the islamic militants/terrorists who function from there. it all started even as some Israeli infantrymen were abducted and Israel insisted they be released. That only wasn't going to ensue and issues exploded. regrettably there have been a tremendous kind of civilians stuck up interior the drama. So what's new?

Hezbollah entered Israel ... killed eight soldiers ... kidnapped two and took them back into Lebanon as hostages.

Israel gave them a couple days to return the hostages ... when the deadline passed, commenced to kick *** and forget about the taking names part.

Hezbollah, long a terrorist organization, holds sway in southern Lebanon and the government of the country has been too weak and ineffective (and ambivalent) to do anything about it. It has been sort of a "What? Me worry?" sort of a thing.

Thus, the government of the sovereign nation of Lebanon is whining about getting blasted ... when they allowed Hezbollah free reign to begin with.

All Hezbollah needs to do to end the pasting they are getting is to return the two hostages and quit lobbing unguided missiles at the populace of Israel.

Until they do that ... Israel is (rightly) going to bomb them into oblivion.

Hezbollah kidnapped 2 soldiers without provication from Israeli soil, and would not return them. Israel said they would stop the bombing if they would return the soldiers unharmed, which Lebanon's elected Hezbollah has not done yet.

Hezbollah took Israeli soldiers hostage. Israel is bombing Hezbollah military and political targets until they give the soldiers back (or until Hezbollah ceases to exist, whichever). Hezbollah responds by firing rockets at Israeli civilian targets, which confirms everyone's suspicions that they're just a bunch of terrorists.
