You can be born with herpes if your mother had herpes. I don't know about any of the other STDs. What on earth is a STI?

You can actually be born with both. If the mother has Clamidea at the time of birth, the infection can be transferred to the baby's eyes or mouth. If the mother has an STD, it depends on what it is. Herpes, Aids, HPV and some other viruses have a HIGH risk of being given to the baby. AIDS is almost 100%. As for getting an STD without sex, yes it's possible. Anytime you transfer fluids, namely blood, with another person. If they are bleeding and you get their blood on a sore that's not healed you can get some of the STD's. This is a question with a complex answer, as the likelyhood of you getting an STD without having sex is extremely low in most circumstances. There is much more to say, but you might want to ask your doctor, so he/she can give you the low-down.

Well maybe herpes. It could be spread by kissing or just skin contact. The good news is that it is only a mild skin disease that is so mild that 80% of people who have it don't even know it.

I guess if it isn't transmitted sexually then it isn't an STD technically.

Yes , diseases pass from the mom to a newborn sometimes.

Yes. If the mother has a disease, some can be transmitted to the child during birth. Outside of that, some sort of sexual contact is required. Except for blood borne viruses. These can be transmitted through blood transfusion. Although this is extremely rare.
