If can get away from them then do. If they are your boss or relative or landlord, then just be as kind as you can for as long as you can. Also, remove yourself from the situation so you can start to puzzle out the dynamic of what is being played out when you are with them. Its usually just habbit and nothing personal or even intentional I have found. Still often unpleasant though. When you get dissed, just try to letit go. We can get away from mean bitter people but they can't get away from themselves. And they know who they are.

I think many bitter people feel mistreated by the world, and maybe feel like nobody cares about them. The best thing - not the easiest - would be to give them an ear, listen to their complaints and rephrase them back to them without agreeing with them, i.e., "So you're saying that the people down the street are drug addicts? I see." Just to know someone is listening to them can make them feel less invisible, and less bitter.

Pray for them, and try to get away from anger, ask God to take your anger and try to walk away if you can. It is hard because we have natural instincts but we need to take a little time to cool off, talk to God about the situation and look at the broader picture, through the Lords eyes.

Ignore them if possible or for every negative they have have a positive. Eventually these people will stop talking to you because they can not stand positivity

in my experience of dealing with the bitter and the self-pitying, i've learned that unless they decide to make changes in themselves, it's no use talking to them...and it only drags you down...so surround yourself with gentleness, love and happy outgoing people, otherwise them bitter beings will influence you too....life is short, we owe it to ourselves to be happy in our short journey while on earth....read www.greatday.com it is always a source of inspiration and postive energy for me!
