When looking down the length of a board with the thinner edge on the horizontal plane, and the wider edge on the vertical plane, bow is an arch from left to right or right to left is a BOW. If the board in the same position, if the board rises or falls in the center that is a CROWN. (Not a CREST)

Uncle Bob got it right for you. Just a couple more points for you. When you install the lumber you want the crown up. The thought behind this is that the weight of the floor, roof, whatever will flatten the crown back down. Likewise, when you install a board that is "bowed" if the bow is up...it is considered bowed. If the board is touching in the middle and the ends are above what you are nailing the board to (like a deck), the the way that board is positioned is considered "cupped." Generally you want the bow up

A bow, is a twisted or bent board. The crest could either be a reference to how the end grain shows, where the outside of the grain arc would be the crest or it could be with a board that is bowed, the part of the board that is bowed out.
