I'm just like any ordinary guy - I like sports, movies, music, etc. I majored in finance and college and have a degree. I don't want to do what i'm doing right now for the rest of my life - let alone a few more weeks. I'd like to work for myself or in a field that I would actually be interested in. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I hear ya, I got my degree in accounting 3 years ago and I am stuck in a job that I despise....Do you really know what you want?

Don't do what I did which is get into a job and think it's great; acquire a home mortgage and 2 car payments, then you realize you hate your job. I'm pretty much screwed

But good luck to you

First, take things slow. You sound like a young person and probably have a pretty limited professional background. Often times just changing employers in the same field makes a huge difference. Maybe search for a smaller company. Often times people feel much more connected to their employer when they work for small companies and often times these situations provide opportunity to expand your role outside of the basic position. A home business or start up is a great idea for a younger guy without a lot of responsibilites (family, mortage, etc..) However, these are hard and often take years before being profitable. But at your age, it may be the right time to take a risk. Also, don't feel strapped down by your degree major. Often times, just having a degree in any field will open some doors.

You're in a country that has a lot of opportunity, you just need to know where to look. You sound like a regular kind of guy, maybe going into business is your thing. Since you're a finance major, maybe you could be a fund manager, traveling the world looking for opportunities to invest in. Or a personal finance advisor to rich people.

Either way, wherever you go or decide to be, don't settle for anything less than your dream job. You might have to take a job you don't want just to get experience to get hired for the job you love, (or maybe because you need the money) but it's all worth it as long as you have a plan and a timeline to go by.

BE PRACTICAL. Don't snub jobs that might help you land your dream job in the future.

PLAN. Know what you want to be, decide on it and plot out how long it will take to get there.

JUST DO IT, BRO. Don't procrastinate, the future won't wait for you. Jump into the thick of things and start whipping your self into shape for that dream job.

Good luck.

I'd be careful on who you'd ask about this type of thing. Most people that try to answer you work 9 - 5's themselves, which isn't exactly the happiest schedule to be on, nor the most profitable. My advice? Don't work. Get your money from multiple sources of residual income that require little to no maintenance. Certain types of MLM, which cost way under 1,000 dollars to start-up but that at the most, (mostly telecom companies seem safest). There's also internet business, I found out about one that's already set up for you. you just pick what to ship etc. And handle a few semantics. No hassle, any problems you just call them up. They have something like that at http://www.storesonlinepro.com/ They don't just let any joe shmoe in, they want to teach you a bit about it first, you can only sign up at one of their seminars, I believe. It's free. When I went it came with free lunch too. It's a good mindset to get into. Always be looking for more forms of investment and money multiplication, and ALWAYS think big. It takes the same amount of work to think little as it does to think big. So you might as well think big, it pays better. After the money is coming in nicely, I'd look into large tax liens (which can yield around 18 to 25 percent interest gained and up) Franchises, and Real Estate. All people who make good money, make profits, not wages. Unless of course you're a CEO of a fortune 500 company or the like. There's lots of other things like this you can find in Robert G. Allen's book multiple streams of income. It's a good read. As is his other book, The One Minute Millionaire. Majoring in finance? You'll do awesome. But I find, smart people, once they get a good bit of money, don't settle. They get into business and start investing, and next thing you know, there's one more republican then their used to be. But you know what they say, You find something that you love doing in employment, and you'll never work a day in your life.

Decide what sounds good, then talk to folks working in that field. Decide after talking to them whether you still think it sounds good.

Then work towards that goal. Get whatever additional education you need, or search for jobs that will give you the experience needed for your dream job.

While you're at it, be realistic about your own capabilities and the job market in that field.

No one can tell you what job you might find pleasurable. But you spend a third of your waking, adult life at your job. For men, success in their jobs is critical to self-image. So you want to be in a job that you find rewarding.

Short term, you may need to compromise to reach your goals. But long term, there should be no compromise. Everything you do should be related to getting to where you want to be.

But while you're at it, make sure you enjoy the journey.

There's a magazine they sell at all supermarkets. It's called "Business Opportunities" or something like that. Just don't fall for the scams being advertised. Just read the articles and get inspired by what other people did. Usually when you see someone else doing something you like, then you'll be more sure.
