I do. I don't use it but I despise the hypocrisy with which this country pursues those who use it. Tobacco is legal even though it's addictive and dangerous. How many people have to die from smoking related diseases before the lawmakers grow some balls and make the practice of poisoning the American public illegal. Marijuana has a number of medical and industrial applications that American farmers and workers could benefit from. It is also for many people a mild and relaxing recreational drug. Used responsibly it has very few long term risks.

Quick response to those that advocate taxing the sale of MJ. This plant is as easy to grow as cucumbers. The average person can easily grow plenty of weed for their own use. The truth is the govt would have a hard time taxing the sale of pot. If they thought they could make money from it's legalization you can bet it would be legal.

Marijuana was blamed for a myriad of things that it doesn't do.
It's greatest offense was that it is in the hemp family. Consider the timing of the Marihuana stamp act of 1937. A machine had just been invented that could process hemp as quickly as cotton and therefore had the chance to re-emerge on the marketplace after 140 year hiatus. The south had a hold on the textile industry because cotton can only grow in that part of our country whereas hemp can grow anywhere. Hemp is a superior fiber to cotton and only fell out of favor because of Eli Whitney's invention made cotton CHEAP. Near the end of the great depression was not a good time for the southern states to face a fundamental shift in the economy. Plus, DuPont had just invented nylon and would have had to share their market with hemp too. and since hemp can produce 10 times more cellulose than corn and 4 times more than trees ( the key component in ethanol production) it was not welcomed by the oil industry either. So, under the banner of eliminating a "dangerous" drug, hemp's return was squashed before it happened. FYI: many medical preparations were available prior to 1937 which contained cannabinods and it had been used safely for some 10,000 years prior to 1937 as well. One more fact, no researcher has ever been able to get an LD50 test result from marijuana (LD50 defines the amount required as a lethal dose which kills 50% of the test group, a required FDA test) because the animals simply could not be given enough.
I'm sure someone will quote the 1970 monkey study that was the basis for the "brain damage" arguement, before you do, research it, the researcher gave the monkeys the smoke from over 1.5 ounces using a gas mask assembly with took about 15 minute per monkey per day. breathe concentrated smoke from anything for 15 every day and you'll have brain damage too, it's called smoke inhalation.
Actually, we were not meant to smoke it but rather, eat it. see GEN 1:29.

Yes. Not because I would use it though; I'm probably one of the most firmly anti-narcotic people you could possibly hope to meet, but I'm also a realist. Marijuana is NOT that harmful, only when used excessively in the long term...so no worse than alcohol, possibly even better, in moderation.

Also, you'd undercut the whole black market element...decriminalising it would remove all the risks and nasty associations with "drugs" most people would have.

Ultimately, people WILL use it, whether it's legal or not. This way, one can both control it and make it as safe as possible. Not to mention make money from it, if you tax the hell out of marijuana :)

Wow, it is truly unhappy. i imagine Marijuana will be legalize once Texas succeeds and take people like Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin with them. lol No, yet heavily, it is going to probably be criminal even as the established public realizes it is not a risky drug. I recommend, it changed into used for each little thing up till the early 1900s. word that a tremendous kind of the recommendations set on MJ is an similar as if it were some thing extra sturdy like opium, cocaine, or heroin--demanding drugs. possibly if the 1000's replaced their perspective on MJ, we may be able to all get well from it and use it to our income again. A shorter answer: when we commence taxing it...

The USA needs to legalize all drugs. The war on drugs has not helped anyone. All it has done is put people in jail. It gives criminals a way to make untraceable, nontaxable money.

All you people who really think that a man should go to jail for smoking pot, or even for snorting coke are no more than scared and ignorant people.

It's wrong, and it's American.

The war on drugs is a fraud. And it's actually documented that the CIA was bringing in drugs, like heroin, inside dead Vietnamese war veterans bodies.

Seriously, think about it for one minute.

Drugs become legal, criminals lose their main source of income. If criminals aren't making money, they have no reason to be criminals.

In theory, I do. It's certainly a better substance to abuse than alcohol or cigarettes. But, if it's legalized it will be regulated by the government and heavily taxed. Nobody would end up very happy in the end.

Absolutely. It's clogging up our legal system and costing us billions of dollars every year. It is less cancerous the cigarettes and way safer the alcohol and less harmful than pharmaceuticals. They should tax the hell out of it and quit punishing users. They need to be focusing more on meth which ruins peoples lives.

Definitely NOT!

I think it should only be legalized for medical reasons.

Look how much problems the US has, do you think Mary Jane is going to help?
