In today's society, most people dont stay on their jobs for longer than 1 year.

I've been with my company and in my position for 5.5yrs...which is a record breaker.

It all depends. I have had a career over the last 20 years, yet I have had several dozen jobs with several dozen employers. I contract my self as a construction worker through the union. I am always working If I want Ican find a job that has 12 hour days with over-time, incase I need extra cash. I "shop" for my jobs. I get what suits me best.

Each job I've had I stayed 2-5 years, then I took my experience and moved higher up the food chain in the next position. My current job, is being disabled and trying to just live and I've been doing that for 1.5 years.

Last job lasted 4 years and now a full time job - a mother of two for the rest of my life. Let's say another 40 years at least!

Usually, something happens. Perhaps reorganization or merger. Boredom..or lack of career growth....not getting along with boss or co-workers..etc. I have been in my job for a little over a year. Just curious, have you been promoted at least? Since you said you are in your position for 5.5 years. If not, I would look elsewhere unless you are a partner or executive.

I am in college and I've had the job I'm at now for a month and a half. My mom worked at one place for 12 years, but quit after they changed management and fired the Director of Nursing for no reason( she was the Assistant Director).

I've been with my current company for 5 months now, but i'm doing a career change next year to become a teacher, and hope to do that for the rest of my life. =) I'm tired of being behind a computer all day long.
