John Handcock was no Writting Master and he would have been well awake to that fact. For his part he said he wrote his name so big because, he wanted to make sure King George could read it clearly.

The role of the Writting Master wained with the birth of this nation and Handcock who was Provisional President was remembered more for his clekmanship than his position! That Sir was merely a clerks hand!

I doubt it. I don't think the term "John Hancock" (referring to a signature) came until later.

No the saying came much latter. But he was very argent and a true politician. This is evident in some of the research that has been done on him.
