Your question is provocative yet so general that no simple answer can possibly be sufficient. My country continues to disappoint me by wasting resources on needless conflicts even as it neglects to develop sufficient responses to genuine threats to its national security. I am not comfortable defining my nationalistic feelings as "love" per se, but I feel greatly fortunate to live where I live in a nation of extreme prosperity and I deeply respect those who have sacrificed to keep this nation safe. Generally speaking, however, the only scenario where I might have to sacrifice my life would be in the event of actual invasion.

I am from the US. I would say that I do love my country, but not to the exclusion of others around the world. I would not die for my country per se, but would willingly put myself in harm's way if I felt that would benefit humanity or save someone else's life.

I do not believe that war is ever justified because it never accomplishes peace. Peace and harmony is what we are after, isn't it? Those that choose war, on both sides, do so because they believe it will make them safer or in some way improve their lives. Inevitably, it achieves neither of these goals. War creates more war and more warriors. That's all.

It is the fallacy of our leaders that they feel they must retalliate for attacks on us or our allies. We fail to see that we have done our part to create the circumstances that lead up to the attacks in the first place.

It is also true that those who attack us believe that they are justified because they feel we have in some way been responsible for whatever difficulties they face. They too fail to see their responsibility for their own situation.

We are all connected and we must realize that our actions affect others as their actions affect us. We must begin to understand that violence of any kind is not the way to peace. It seems so logical and so obvious yet we still don't get it after all the wars. We must begin to build an environment where everyone feels included, not isolated.

We can only create a world of peace if we see everyone as our family. We are one global community and we have to start acting that way if we want to make it feel that way. That doesn't mean we cannot love our towns or states or countries.

The beauty of this country is mostly due to the fact that, with all our difficulties, all our diversity, all the wonderful inner cultures that exist within this United States, we somehow find a way to live together. We are a melting pot of all the world's people right here. More so than any other country.

The problem is that we haven't figured out how to expand that idea, "E Pluribus Unum" - out of many one, beyond our borders. Now Europe is becoming more accepting than we are. We are becoming fearful that those who choose to come here will make our country or our lives less than before. The truth is anyone who chooses to come here to make their own life better will make our country better.

Fear is behind everything negative in the world. Let go of your fear. Look out with love and you will see a better world. Look inside with love and you will make your world full of joy and peace and love.

I'm from me mother 'n me father, that's where! I do deeply appreciate much about my country - so much so that I served for ten years in the Army during the Vietnam War. Never got hit, thank goodness, but came close.
