Without going into extensive and dangerous surgery to prove the matter; I can tell you that they all have spines. Take my word! It is only natural that they have such a key bodily component, afterall, they wouldn't fair too well without one.
Sounds like youv'e been dating victims of bullying. People are bullied because they are physically weaker or mentally 'less self-confident' than the bully. Perhaps a confidence-building/moral-boosting speech or such like may be in order.
Being bullied makes life hell, people will even take their own lives away from themselves because of it. By not helping them avoid the situation, you are siding with the bully in that you exacerbate the situation - but keep trying, if you make 'em feel like crap for being weak then they'll probably do something about it next time! - Get them to take up martial arts classes, these lessons will boost the persons inner confidence in themselves - knowing they could beat the crap out of their bully if they wanted to, but it will also teach them self control.

I have the same attitude as you, and it often ends me up with few friends. It's human nature to go with the group, so when you're a person who doesn't care for what the group is doing, and you're not leading the group, you often end up left alone.
You basically just have to be patient, and keep having a spine yourself. You may end up without a whole lot of friends for a bit, but you'll keep your dignity and self esteem, which is more than most people can say.

If you exercise power against others in power, are you any better than they are? I wouldn't call that having a spine, because sometimes it's not beneficial to do that. There's nothing wrong with taking a stand, but not over pathetic issues, espicially when your job is on the line. When it comes to your boss, he's right if your job is on the line! Unless you want to live in a box, then be my guest.

Be yourself and move in a positive direction...try not to be mean if you can help it but don't let someone else define what mean is either. Our kind tends to find it's own after time...don't settle either..the others will frustrate you and test your patience.
Good luck and use your power for good not evil!!

What can I say?
I think I agree with previous posters who say you sound like a troublemaker.
If you can only wet it up for a tough guy, go hang out at the UFC

be yourself and always stick up for what you believe in. Don't let yourself be bullied or someone else change your thoughts.
