I really have heard it all now. I knew Americans were stupid and lazy but this is taking the piss!
WASH for ***** sake! I don't know ANYONE that has had it done and never get infections.
And to the woman who done it to her sons so they could look like their dad - that is just wrong in every way. What they gonna do - sit and compare dicks?

Amysvun - I am from the UK and live here so don't need to go back anywhere ta very much. And I have a 9 month old son I would never put through any unnessecary pain.
And lazy - thats right. Many peoples reason have been to stop infection. WASHING stops infection.... to lazy to wash?

Exactly! Why would they?! Get a bar of soap or baby wipes and you'll be clean in no time. Wipe n' go. It is cruel no matter what anyone says, lack of education on the subject of cleanliness. Mother nature created all the relevant bits, so you shouldnt tamper with it. I mean you wouldn't chop your ears off just because they needed cleaning, would you??

Using infantile amnesia as a reason to hurt a child like this is ludicrous. If that were the case then why would hospitals waste good money on anesthetics during operations. These people ough to read a little more about how a child developes into an adult and how much experience in infancy and childhood effect who we are.
If you said religion, that's fair enough, that's a different question for a different section of YA.
If you said medical, and I mean real medical not preemptive crap like STDs etc (I have a foreskin and have never had an STD) STDs are better prevented by having a little talk with your son rather than lopping his forewskin off, immediate medical reasons are ok too

I am in the UK and my friends son is having medical problems so he is having a procedure soon... it isn't circumcision it's just going to loosen it up a bit as apparently they don't like to circumcise children (at this particular hospital) now as they don't want them to "look different".
If I was a man (I am not) and I had a choice of being circumcised at the age of 3 months, 6 years or 12 years... I'd pick 3 months every time.
Some religious groups do this as a matter of course. Don't quote me on this but Jewish and Muslim faiths insist upon it.
I personally think it is only really necessary for medical reasons. I have a 2 year old son and he's still as he was on the day he was born in that department, and he will stay that way unless there is some medical reason he needs it sorted out... or unless he chooses to do it himself when he is older.

It is not common to get babies circumcised where I come from, but my husband has a medical condition which would be alleviated if he had it done.
His mother was a single mum and didn't realise there was problem.
However now he is so precious about his private parts, that he refuses to get it done and I really wish it had been done when he was too young to remember and then we could have been saved all the trouble it has caused.
I also have had 2 male friends with the same problem, one had it done in his teens and was teased terribly about it, and the other did nothing until he was hospitalised at 23. The ambulance had to come to the house of the girl he had gone home with that night and needless to say he didn't hear for her again.
I have a baby boy and wish it had been an option when he was born, as now we will have to wait until it becomes an issue. (which will obviously cause great embarrassment!)

I did and didn't even think twice about it. It's not just cruel as if we are evil people who want to watch our new baby suffer. Get a clue first before you criticize! My father wasn't circumcised as a baby but because he continued to get infection after infection no matter how hard or how many times he washed inside the foreskin, he had to be circumcised at the age of 67. He had to spend at least three days in the hospital, had to be catheterized, and it hurt a hell of a lot more and was a lot more dangerous than if he had been circumcised as a newborn. I and my husband, who was circumcised at the age of 12 (ouch!) wanted to save our son the agony. Therefore, it was NOT unnecessary and YOU don't know what you are talking about! Not that that would stop you for an opinion!

Well, you can wash and scrub and teach your son to wash and scrub all day long but there is still going to be the possibility of infection unless maybe you wash your child in bleach. Some men end up having problems with it later in life, some don't. It's just a personal decision that everyone has the right to make. Just because the parents choose to have this done does not mean they love their son any less than parents that don't have it done.

Why post the question?? You really must not want to know because all I see is your smart A** comments to those who answer your question. People make the choice on there beliefs and circumstances. I have three boys and they were circumcised I asked the Doctor the pros and cons. I made an informed decision which is my right. I Don't think there is anything wrong with not being circumcised either. I know men that have went in and been circumcised and wish there parents would have had it done when they were born. So there are all different aspects to it

My partner got circumcised when he was a baby, nothing to with religion or anything. Just because of medical reasons...he could pee properly. It's not necessarily sick or cruel, it's what sometimes needs to be done. Also the fact that you are calling Americans stupid and lazy is a bit harsh to be honest. I'm English but I still dont think that anyone has the right to say something like that unless of course you've met every single American. I bet you've never even met one! Honestly...people like you are such idiots...grow up!

If it is for medical reasons, then it may be nessecary.
My son was circumsised at 8 years old after nearly losing his life after he contracted the Stevens-Johnson syndrome. This is basically a breakdown of the immunity system, while in hospital he suffered from meningitus, herpes, conjectivtus, chicken-pox and whooping cough ALL AT THE SAME TIME. He came out in spots at big as 50p pieces outside and inside his body.
So, the poison gradually came out of his body through the next year in boils on his body. But a couple in a delicate area failed to go and had to be removed by operation, they had turned as hard as stone. He was then circumsised to prevent any further infection occuring. He is 21 now and has not had any problems since then.

Im an American living in Norway. They don't circumsize babies here. I think most of the world doesn't circumsize babies. I may be wrong about that though. I just know that America and probably Isreal do. I think it's cruel and I can't stand to think about it. The baby looses quite a bit of blood through this procedure too. Torture, really. But people just dont' care and claim it to be done for 'health reasons or cleanliness*. Maybe those men don't wash their dicks as often as they need to then.

Our son had a circumcision at 10 months for medical reasons. The foreskin was too tight and sometimes he couldn't wee properly. There is a lot of research to suggest that it is better for boys to have this small operation. He was under general anaesthetic and although had some pain for a few days afterwards the wound cleared up really quickly, and I am so glad we did it when he was a baby, as he has no memory of this and if we had left it he would have had a lot of problems as he got older.
