No, but early music from the goth scene has its roots in punk music. Joy Divison's early works are very punk. And I'm not talking about that cr@p they call punk now. That's all shyte. Alien Sex Fiend is considered punk, but is among the favourites of quite a few goths. There is some cross over, but generally speaking, no they are not the same.
And one more thing...all you kids need to learn what real gothic music is. Lacuna coil is metal, cradle of filth is metal, they are not gothic. They are shyte.

Hell no, I could see how you would get that impression from the way punk is portrayed. Only new pseudo punks could be considered goth, it was originally a lot more original, if that makes sense. But a real punk isn't just about style like that, that's MTV punk you're thinking of.

No, goth is more of a lifestyle with type of dress and general apperance. Punk is a type of music. It seems that goth people tend to enjoy punk rock though.

naah goth and punk arent the same thing at all...you can figure it out even lookin at the people who are into that kind of music and life style...i mean im into punk and i listen to really fast and loud music (punk) and live the way punks live...goths are more into fantasies and that reflects to the way they dress and wear make up...they wear black make up and dress all in black...their songs are slower than punk rock...:))i hope that answers your question

I dont think so-- but they do go togerhter well.
Goth is like Suicide Commando, Sisters of Mercy, Hatebreed, Clan of Xymox, Deine Lakaien, VNV Nation, Grendel and so on,
and punk (I guess) is like Prodigy, the Clash, Pinback, or Ramones-style music (more rocky, less feely)
Goth is dark or emotional/spiritual, punk is more aggressive or socially attuned (not emotionally attuned)

No way! When you think of goth you think of bands like xandria or haggard. Punk's more like green day and simple plan & stuff.

No but they can be intertwined... The ones on the far ends of the spectrum will be angry if you mix them up though...
