I have been a mental health RN for over 20 years. Xanax is over prescribed by many doctors. It has the potential to become physically addictive whereas other anti-anxiety medications are less likely. You might want to ask your doctor about ativan. Also, have you tried other more natural avenues to decrease your stress and anxiety? Do you meditate. Are you using this to help sleep? Have you ever tried guided imagery techniques to help with relaxation?

I have heard that Xanax is good stuff, and that it really helps with anxiety and depression, but it also can have a BIG negative impact on your sex drive.
If you want the official list of side effects for the medication and what its purpose is, then go to:

and search for Xanax (bar in the top left corner).

I can't remember the side effects but it seemed to work for me but I only took it once; zoloft and prozac did the trick for me for about 3 or 4 more years.-

It works great but it's very addictive. If you don't take it every day you should be ok. Also don't mix it with alcohol, you won't remember a thing.
