No, the U.S. is not picking up the tab.

For many months the U.S. has warned travelers that Lebanon is an unsafe tourist destination and advised travelers that they should travel at their own risk and that they should register with the U.S. Embassy should they chose to go.

Assuming someone traveled there for reasons other than living there permanently, they did so against the strong warning of the U.S. State Department.

Even so, the U.S. will evacuate any American who wants to go with 3 stipulations:

1) Only one bag may be brought
2) No pets
3) reimburse the government for the cost of the transportation.

This does not in any way seem unreasonable to me. It is a 5 hour boat ride, how much can it cost?? If the person traveled there knowing the risks, I think it is fine that they incur whatever minimal cost may be involved----they would have to pay to leave on their own at some point anyway had this not happened.

Man----what's the deal with everyone looking for a free ride these days?

To the best of my knowledge Americans are being charged a flat fee for evacuation, although if they are unable to pay they are still evacuated and will be dealt with later. A couple foundations and charity organizations along with some government charities are picking up the tab for the evacuees. Not bad. A commercial ship with a US destroyer escort or military helicopter isn't a bad way to travel, as far as safety goes

If i changed into the acceptable of your authorities those people may be getting a bill the position by using it may take them 5 years only to pay again the cost of this outrageous evacuation, are you able to imagine the cost of sending those warfare ships and planes to the middle east, now your media will carry close this and seek out all of your bleeding hearts to yell foul about how a lot cost and the way lengthy it took to get the activity done, In Canada we've a similar challenge only up the following the bleeding hearts foyer the hell out of our politic ions, what's sad is the dummies pay interest to them, and our media up the following nicely we may might want to take heed to each of the authorities bashing and sensationalizing now for the subsequent month or extra what those stupid stupid people have brought about is easily unacceptable, yet wager what, we may be able to pay pay pay for all those dummies.
