I've been invited on a date by a nice guy but he keeps good relations with bullies, to avoid trouble. He looks the other way when bullies attack someone he appreciates, and he makes sure the bullies feel appreciated by him.

can you say spineless? if a guy is afraid of being beat up, i don't even wanna be friends
i defend my friends or those that i appreciate, no matter if it lands me in the hospital
i don't mind bullies, i actually justify them, but a person like that i just think is spineless

No, that's selfish of him. He let's his friends get hurt so he can be in good standing of these bullies. He's just afraid he's going to get beat up by them. If he was a real friend and if he was brave instead of being a coward he'd take up for the people they are hurting. Maybe while your on your date you can ask him why he's being a coward, and not taking up for his friends.

Nice Guy?!?!? All bullies are cowards, they pick on easy targets, so they feel superior at the victims expense. Your "Nice Guy" is also a coward & yes he's as much a bully as his friends if he egs them on. Don't believe me? Just start a relationship with him. He'll eventually turn on you, & abuse you if you let him.

You certainly can love someone like that.
But do you want to?

I would say such behavior reflects a serious weakness of character on his part. In my opinion, you'd be best off turning him down. There are plenty of better guys out there.

If you can't live without him or if he's the best guy you've met, then take it as 'that's just his downside'. Does that make you feel better? But still, never walk through dark or lonely alleys with him, especially at night.

I do not see how you could respect him. What would you think if he stood by and let one of his bully friends abuse you 'cause he wanted to keep them in his pocket? Weird and creepy.

Someone who is manipulative like that isn't worth your time. How long before he is manipulating you?
