My school visited a college to see "Othello" and my fellow classmates were just being so stupid at some of the things they were saying and doing in the play. Why can't they just appreciate the art of acting?!?

That isn't a hard question to answer. 1) peer pressure. If their friends weren't there they would likely have sat and dealt with it. 2) A disciplinarian wasn't present. I have kids, if they even thought of laughing during a play that wasn't a comedy I would pop them. 3) Natural Immaturity. Are you really that much more mature than them? Yes. Everyone matures at a different stage, the successful people generally do it earlier. 4) They didn't really understand. A lot of people mock what they don't understand. Human Nature. 5) Not everyone appreciates thesbians. Some people actually consider true acting what they see in the movies not what REAL acting is. 6) Maybe it was funny. Everyone's sense of humor is triggered differently, maybe theirs just got turned on before yours did.

It sounds like more a problem of stupidity than immaturity. Are you sure they even understand the play? If they did, I'm not sure how you couldn't appreciate Othello. It has to be one of Shakespeare's very best!

Being able to appreciate the fine art of acting is what separates the well educated from your fellow classmates.

Just remember: aging is mandatory, maturing is optional. Go by yourself if you can't find anyone else who appreciates art like you do, you'll get a very subjective experience which is very cool.

Because they are mentally lazy and would rather be goofy idiots than take the time to educate themselves to appreciate this play and the performance.

Your classmates have a brain deficiency. They will miss so much of what life has to offer when they are older.

Who cares? You're sure demonstrating your maturity by talking about kids that we (answerers) have never met and do not care about. Stop sniveling and accept that you probably aren't that mature either.
