I planted a trumpet vine 5 years ago and this year it's really starting to take off. Beautiful orange blooms! I love it. But I was doing some research about pruning and such and now discover that it's a very difficult to control vine. Should I dig it up? I'm scared it will take over my yard. Should have spent some time researching.

Prune it a couple of times during the growing season and cut it back hard when it's dormant. That's what I do to mine and it's not taken over mback corner even

A very aggressive vine, indeed. It's best to train a trumpet up a trellis and constantly prune.

I talked my neighbor out of planting one of those years ago. Yes, they will take over if allowed. If you can dig it up then do so. Cutting it back will just prolong the agony. If digging does not do it then I suggest a brush killer or Round Up . Good Luck!

Don't panic! I really think a good prune about 2 or 3 times a year will keep it in control.

Good luck. If you love it, keep it. :-)

Maybe. If it is close to your house it could really harm it. It's considered destructive. Could mess up the siding, the roof window sills. Do you have a telephone pole nearby you could move it to. I want one myself but I am not putting it near my house. Hummingbirds love it. Good luck
