cap·i·tal·ism NOUN: An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.
Kind of says it all, doesn't it? We have this system because these are the people in power. The people who own the business and accumulate the wealth. Then they control everything else, including the beliefs of the people, with their wealth. People who are healthy and well paid will consistantly buy in to the myth the wealthy promote...which is, those who are not benefiting from this system are lazy or unskilled. Like the arguments you've already received in your answers. The wealthy benefit from the labor of the people at the bottom, those who are not well paid. They also benefit from their yes-men higher up the totem pole. Only the wealthy benefit from people who give answers like "...lazy and unskilled". Only those who are not benefiting from this system, those who are not paid well, those who are sick, those who've been abandoned, those who've witnessed first hand the down side of capitalism will be able to expose it. Unfortunately, these are the ones without power. We get so sick of being compared to the small minority who are lazy or on drugs. That is such a tired and unsupportable belief.

There are millions of millionaires in the United States. That's not an exaggeration. I myself believe communism is a better theory, however look at our track record. Obviously there are flaws that need to be ironed out.
The only problem with capitalism is that allows slavery in the same way that a stripper could be considered a whore. A Businessman can pay a worker less than what he will receive from the fruits of the worker's labor. Does minimum wage make that OK?
Wouldn't it be nice if everything cost what it cost to produce. Money's sole purpose would be to keep track of who is working and who is not. But if we all got paid the same who would do the dirty jobs. I suggest we take turns. Just like we learned in kindergarten. Or is all that B.S?

Ah well, your question assumes that the way the US market and political system currently work is truly capitalism. While some of the tenets of capitalism are currently adhered to in the US, others are blatantly not. For some ideas about how it could work better and be more true to the spirit of capitalism I'd refer you to the works of Ayn Rand (particularly her nonfiction work). Although her ideas may seem radical, I'd encourage you to read through it all and keep an open mind.

What a very dumb question. Capitalism does work for a majority of Americans. It works just wonderfully for those who work, put forth effort, get off their butts, and works exceptionally well for hard workers.
Do a majority of Americans go to bed hungry?
Do a majority of Americans have shelter?
Do a majority of Americans have opportunities to advance?
Do a majority of Americans have cars, cable TV, microwaves, clothes, etc.?
Well, do they?

It only doesn't work if you're lazy or unskilled. The USA has plenty of opportunities for people to learn new skills, so that just leaves the lazy. Which is why capitalism doesn't work for many.

It works well for a lot of people. But, it does leave some people behind. Those that are in the lower classes have to work MUCH harder to get ahead than those in the upper classes. I think that it is because the laws that we have are written by wealthier people, so they don't really understand poverty.

Who says it is not working for the majority? Just because the majority is not filthy rich? Who cares, at least the majority is living above the poverty level, which is more than you can say for third world countries!

It works fine for 95% of people. The other 5% are lazy people who don't want to get jobs.
