Half of the questions i have read today are about how we think about god why do people have to have someone above them to make themselve happy? I am an aethiest and im not trying to push that god doesn't exist or anything, but why god? he doesn't have a major factor in my life and im fine, how come others NEED him and i don't

and i don't want anybody trying to tell me that without his love i am empty, or any of that sh-it i want your answers. not something someone else fed you.

Not everyone turn to god for answers. Only people with low esteem turn to god.

I most certainly won't try to sell you on Christianity or any other religion, especially when I'm quite confused about it myself.

But to answer your question, in my opinion, I think that sometimes people (even those who are not active believers) tend to turn to God when they feel they have no one else to turn on to. To many, Christianity or the concept of God is ingrained into them from the moment they're born.

A prime example, myself having grown up in Franco's Spain, during a time when the Catholic church was an active part of our society, and where there was nowhere where we could get away from it or be exposed to different viewpoints from it. It was pretty much "If you're good, you'll go to heaven, and if you're bad, you'll go to hell". Even if protestants verbally disagree and they tell you that merely being good won't get you into heaven, otherwise it is basically the message.

When I grew up and went into early adulthood, I decided to join other churches and read more into religion and after several years of nothing but disappointment with the different churches I joined, I decided that the best way to serve God (if there is one) is to simply treat others the way you want to be treated and discard anything else.

However, that's easily said than done, because when push comes to shove and I feel like I may be in a life threatening or stressful time in my life, I pray, cross myself, etc. I even want to make sure that despite the way I choose to live my life, that I do get the last rites when I die. Kinda like an insurance policy.

Howard Stern said in a recent interview that he didn't believe in organized religion, but that he didn't want to push it just in case. That's where I am as far as religion goes. We can talk rationally, I can refute Christians (or the faux Christians who want to impose their way or the highway to everyone else) until the cows come home, but in the end, I have Christianity too ingrained not to pray during stressful times.

Well, I'm an agnostic, so I'm not trying to preach at all. I know when I felt desperate and dissapointed with life in my younger years I became more spiritual.

I think that sometimes life is really so hard that people need something to hope for. They need to feel that all this suffering will be relieved, that one day there will be a reward and that there is a happier life ahead...here on earth, or at least in the after life.

I don't know but even if you don't believe in God, you probably agree that it's o.k. to help out your fellow man. I have found that "Believers", rush to help people in crises. The thousands of volunteers from Baptist and other religions that have flocked to volunteer in the sticky, hot summer heat down here in New Orleans are a testament to what I'm saying. That's not even to mention the $ donations from those who can't come down in person. Even a Saudi Arabian Ambassador (presumably Muslim) was down here the other day, walking the 9th ward, and bringing a multi-million dollar check for relief. So, cut us some slack, we don't mean any harm.

I am wondering why you are asking about it then.

I see more posts about God from athesists then I do from Christians.

Why are atheists always harping about God if they don't believe in God?

because the inner voice is named as 'God' by many people. all we have to do is to listen our inner voice because it is the only one which can answer us.
remember:'''god is answering when the question is simple''(Einstein)
