t-7*t/5 = 49
Factor out the "t":
t*(1-7/5) = 49
Do the subtraction:
t*(-2/5) = 49
Divide both sides by -2/5:
t = -49*5/2 = -122.5

-7t/5 = 49
-7t = 245
-t = 35
t = -35
The above is assuming, of course, that you said: "Solve for t if -7t/5 = 49". If you actually meant (Solve: t - 7t/5 = 49) then the answer would be -122.5.

As I tell my students, the KEY to solving algebra problems is to
Isolate the unknown variable, which is T in this case, by doing the exact opposite of what's being done to it right now.
With -7T / 5 = 49, you're:
1) Dividing T by 5, so the opposite would be to multiply both sides by 5. This would leave you with -7T = 245.
2) Multiplying T by -7, so you'd do the opposite by dividing both sides by -7, which would leave you with T = -35.

t - 7t/5 = 49
5t-7t = 49*5
-2t = 245
hence, t = -122.5

If by this you mean
t - (7t/5) = 49
multiply everything by 5
5t - 7t = 245
-2t = 245
t = -122.5
but if you mean
(t - 7t)/5 = 49
(-6t)/5 = 49
-6t = 245
t = -40.833

Just another approach.
Multiply both sides of the equation by 5
5t - 7t = 245
-2t = 245
t = -245/2 = -122.5

-7t/5 = 49
-7t = 49 * 5
t = (49*5)/-7
If you do the arithmetic, you have the answer.
