besides stupid answers like Jeffery S.. which you should ignore,, check to see if any of the vents are being blocked by food containers,, both in the freezer and the fridge sides,, pull it away from the wall and clean the tubes and fins you find back there unless it is an enclosed unit,, your unit may also have a pan on the bottom that needs to be cleaned out,,,make sure you leave enough space in the back and sides to allow ventilation!!!

One half of your side by side is a REFRIGERATOR not a FREEZER. One side will freeze and the other side will maintain a temperature for things like cheese, produce, milk, etc. If you feel that it isn't quite cold enough, you can set the temperature by adjusting a little knob usually found near the top on the inside of the unit. Remember, only one side, usually the left side, is a FREEZER.

It sounds like it's not working correctly. You should call a refrigerator repair man or purchase a new refrigerator.

Is it a Maytag? I have the same problem and recently pulled it out, vacumed the back real well, and it will stay about 40 degrees if we turn it up all the way. Also, it makes a loud popping sound.
