Do you need a business licence first? How do you get something like paypal? And how do you make it so people see your site when looking at other sites (ie yahoo) I would not be selling anything on this site besides memberships

Those are some pretty involved questions.

First, you don't need a license to operate a business on-line unless the business itself requires one. You should talk to a CPA about what form of business (sole properitor, LLC or corporation).

Second, you just have to register for a paypal account. You'll need a checking/savings account.

Finally, this is a really involved answer. You can register your site on yahoo and google, but you'll be at the bottom of the search results. The search engines (what yahoo & google use to determine which sites to show when you enter a search) look at several factors. One is the number of sites that link to yours based on certain keywords. Another is the content on your site. The search engine will determine what your site is about based on the content.

You can advertise on Yahoo and Google, but it will cost you each time someone clicks on your ad.

I would suggest that you invest in learning more about running an on-line business. I like Jim Edwards as an internet marketing expert. Checkout his ebook at http://www.33daystoonlineprofits.com/.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden
* How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I'm currently building my business as an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay and am looking for sharp, positive women to join my team. There are four reasons women become MK consultants: 1. Money, 2. Flexibility, 3. Fun, 4. Hope. The starter kit is $100 and comes with over $300 worth of product, so worst case scenario - it's the biggest compact you ever bought. Best case scenario - it could change your life. There's no pressure, no quotas, no boss. You will meet tons of great, positive girlfriends. I'm having so much fun and earning great money!

To see if the Mary Kay opportunity is right for you, take the Life Can Be Good Quiz on my website:

I would start by selling things on e-bay and this in turn will help you set up a paypal account and help you get the hang of doing business.
