I live in that same type area. The only option we have is satellite. Wild Blue is the cheapest in our area. Costs 200.00 up front and 50.00-90.00 per month depending on how fast you want it to be.
Don't know if they go all over the US, but here's a toll free number you can call to find out.

You have four options with this setup these days.
1. Switch to a satellite service provider. If you do this ensure that they allow for upload through the satellite as well as download. This will prevent you from having to keep the dial up to upload things.
2. You can use a cell phone as a connection but that would be only a little faster then dial up.
3. You can purchase a PCIMIA card for the laptop that works with the cellular towers and acts like having the cell phone connected to the computer. Currently this is not cheap but works well and allows for access almost anywhere much like the cellular phones do. Plus you don't need the phone tied up to use it.
4. You can wait the agonizing time it will take for either DSL or Cable to become available in the area.

Hard to say, she can try getting better numbers for the dial up. Or see if the dish company has a Internet service. I know some of the cable companies have them, such as comcast. Otherwise hope that DSL will get out there, in the near future.

Hi beautiful Paris,
All I see in this situation is wirelss internet connection. Get a Wireless Internet Router and connect. It's much faster than DSL or if your fren has a cell with email capabilities then that too should be fine.Good luck!

I'm not sure if you can honey. I too lived out in the country and the only way to get it was thru the phone lines but Qwest wouldn't do it unless there was 40-50 people in the area that wanted service.

There is a way to connect your cell phone to your laptop. You can find out through Bestbuy or Radioshack from one of their "techies".
Otherwise, just go into town and get on a wireless connection. There's no hope. My parents are his neighbors.

Well there are some satelite internet services that run at about the speed of DSL. I think Clearwire is a company that offers that.

Get your connection from the dish company. They may have some kind of bundle you can get with other stuff too.
