Well for one it'll be differnt...shes indian and it depends on where your going to be sending her, what country and so on.......so you have to pick the right place as for her being shy if one or so of her friends are going abroad try letting her go with them .....or else for a good start let her go else where in india......a new place for her graduate course and once shes accustomed to living alone she can go abroad , because while shes in a differnt place in india....she does have that little securtiy that if anything goes wrong she can just fly back to mumbai ........plus depends on what course shes interested in ......even i did the same i left home to a new place.....its was great......but i had a few old friends along....best of luck ....

Well, I know you were probably looking for more of an adult perspective. But I am seventeen and just recently spend four monthes studying abroad in Italy. It was absolutly amazing, and life changing, and I had alot of amazing experiences. I am also looking at going away for a longer period for missionary work when i graduate next year. Although I cannot be certain I do think that my mum is havin alot of trouble thinking about me going away for longer. I think that it will make your daughter grow as a person, and that the experiences she would gain, in being independant will stay with her for the rest of her life. The friends that she will meet are also going to be amazing too.

Studying abroad is perfect for a "shy" person. I studied in France for a year after graduation and when I got there I was so shy, I didn't have a clue who I really was, or what my true opinions on ANYTHING were. It really helped me get in touch with who I am and learn about myself, while learning to speak fluent French and learning all about their culture. I think it is a GREAT life experience.

Absolutely. I did it my self (Norway) and my family had 5 exchange students live with us over the years. If she doesn't do it now in high school, she DEFINITELY should during college. It is such a valuable experience from many perspectives.
If you're nervous about it, see about hosting an exchange student for a semester or a year before she goes...
