Have you ever thought about what you'd like at your funeral? What kind of music? Preacher? Casket? What you'd like your family and friends to wear? What you'd like them to say about you? What you want to wear to the grave?

The most impressive funeral I've ever seen, for its liveliness and tribute, was Jim Henson's, which I attended at St. John's Cathedral, NYC, in 1990. (It was open to the public.) When I go, I hope I deserve a funeral like his (most likely on a smaller scale, though).

Anyway, what do you imagine, or what would you want, for your funeral?

A large but completely plain coffin (nothing expensive or flashy)... if it's winter when I get burried, a blanket... ooh and a teddy. Just relaxed, comfy clothing, a hoodie and jeans or something - and boots, not shoes, I don't wanna be uncomfy... but make-up is essential, cover my imperfections!

I would want my family to wear whatever they were comfortable in - none of this 'all in black' or 'smart clothes' stuff - it's pointless, if it's gonna be a hard day (and call me selfish, but I sorta hope that the world losing me wouldn't be a totally positive occasion) there's no point making it harder by the discomfort of scratchy funeral suits, not to mention the potential expense of having to get kitted out in 'funeral ready' gear.

I feel like everyone knows me differently, so i'd want everyone to say whatever they felt comfortable saying, no matter what that might be. When I die I want all the people that I was known as to go to the grave as one.

I'd like some kind of soft metal. Something classic, like 'don't cry' or 'november rain' by Guns N Roses. A tear-jerker that reflects me as a person.

Preacher? Christian... methodist, ideally. I'm not a methodist Christian but it's what my family would be most comfortable with, and after death, they're really the ones that matter.

Afterwards i'd like everyone to have some big, funky-*** party... a happy party, where they all get drunk and laugh about all the stupid things I did. That'd be a cool end to the day - I hope I leave behind enough cash to buy nibbles and beer for said party!

Instead of flowers on my grave, I simply adore the Jewish tradition of placing stones on the grave - anyone can afford to find a stone or pebble, they don't die and wilt and look gray and upsetting like flowers would do, and they don't rot - they last as long as your bones are in the ground.

Yeah, i've thought about it quite a lot!

Another thought that once crossed my mind is the idea of being cremated and then having my ashes made into a diamond (which can be done, but it's very expensive) then just putting that diamond in a pawn shop or whatever and seeing where it ends up - rings and what have you often last a very long time, being passed down generation to generation. They also often find many, many resting spots (a jewellery box or drawer for example) where they can have a few years' peace before they're found by someone, and maybe finally find their resting spot at the bottom of the ocean when they're dropped overboard a ship or in a forrest when they fall off someones finger on a nature walk... I like the idea that my final resting place would be decided by fate.

Anyway, yeah, those are my two scenarios - i've thought about it a LOT! Heh :o)

I do not imagine my funeral at all. To begin with, I'm to busy living, to care for when I'll be dead. Besides, I won't REALLY be there any more, so I wouldn't mind my family doing what they want or feel at the moment. Funerals are about making the LIVING feel better. The one in the coffin doesn't matter any more, because it's only a lifeless body.

that is taking issues way too a methods. I actual have countless photos of deceased kinfolk individuals that have been provided as area of the funeral plan lower back interior the day whilst that style of component replaced into commonplace. those human beings have been lifeless in the previous i replaced into born and it nonetheless creeps me out when I run for the duration of those photos, so i could somewhat be disturbed via a image of the physique of a three three hundred and sixty 5 days previous that replaced into those days deceased. somebody needs to assert some thing to the guy that published the image. We each and every have an exact to grieve in our own way, to an volume, yet that is only morbid and extremely offensive for my area.

I don't want a big ceremony. I always tell my husband that I want them to use any parts of me they can, and burn the rest. Having friends get together and tell (good) stories about our times together would be just fine.
