Depends what type of monitor you're using. But yes, it can strain your eyes and give you a headache if you're staring at it too long. The best remedy is to turn the brightness down.
I've been using CRT and LCD monitors for about 5-9 hours a day for the last 6 hours and I have 20/20 vision.
Your loss of vision is most likely from something else.

I spend about 12-15 hours a day in front of a computer screen. Several actually. I have found it is easier on my eyes if using a LCD or a Pure flat CRT monitor. I use 2 19 inch LCD monitors and 1 Pure flat 19 inch CRT at home. I have not had any problems with my eyes yet.

Abuse is wrong in everything, for your eyes at the computer, drinking in your kidneys, and so and so and so.
Be at the computer but not for a long time, and try to be with some other persons, you are being alone for so much time, do you like it so much?

yes, computers can affect the eyes. As a matter of fact, there is a specific kind of glasses people can get for use with a computer. if it's affecting your eyes, take a breather, and quit using it for awhile

Yes, especially you are facing the monitor for a long period of time. Remedy : Get a good screen protector for your monitor. Good One. Get up and relax a little or move away for 10 -15 minutes.

Yes, the computer monitor is bad for your eyes. If you get an LCD, it can help slow down the process. Well, as far as getting back your vision...try carrots.

Only if you have your monitor set wrong.
Set the monitor refresh rate as high as it will go. 85 Hz and above should be OK.
If you have a TFT screen you won't be able to do this.
