I especially can't stand grunge music from the 90s! Also, when I'm depressed, I usually like to listen to something upbeat. Can anyone enlighten me here?

Yeah, I agree: grunge music SUCKS! I think people like to wallow in self-pity and feel sorry for themselves. I'm with you...I like upbeat stuff.

Depression like Misery-loves company. Listening to sad depressive music, when you are sad and depressed allows people to see other peoples pain and misery and not feel alone. I had a friend once, who was extremely depressed. She would listen to the sad cure songs and cut herself with a knife. Somehow, in her world, it helped her feel better, at least she was able to convince herself that it helped her feel better.

I agree though, i have never been a fan of the 90's grunge. I despised the music of Nirvana from the moment i heard it. I like happy upbeat music. Tunes that make me want to sing and dance in my car.

It's the whole teen angst thing. If you listen to depressing music when you're depressed you feel like some one else knows what you're going through and it makes you feel better.
At least that's why I listen to depressing music xP

I usually like to listen to upbeat music too when i'm down, but I heard that some people listen to depressing music when they're down because they like to listen to music according to their emotions, basically, if they're happy, they listen to upbeat music. When they're down, they like to listen to downbeat music.

People listen to depressing music to help them mourn over what they are depressed about.

People are depressed and they listen to depressing music so they don't feel alone. I'd also rather not listen to depressing music, though. :P

No, you're doing fine. You're not taking human nature into account. Why do people do dope? Why do governments lie? Why do people do the thousand and one things they do?

They're not right. Few are. It's uphill there too, but at least you know where you don't want to be. Hope this helps.

What might be depressing to you may not be to them. Not everyone has to think the same way you do about music.
