Sometimes when I get my computer worked on and it requires reinstalling some things then my sound does not work as well. There is a little option that if it is clicked the your sound does not work.
Located in your volume control (Playback Control) is an advanced button underneath the first volume slider. When you click it there may be sliders for Bass and Treble... near the bottom is an option saying 1 Digital Output only.
If this box is checked then you will not hear the sound. I'm not really sure what it does but I've notice that at times after repairing my PC it will be checked.
If this doesn't work then it may be your soundcard and I would also do like someone else has suggested... talk to the place that repaired your PC and see what you can have done about this undesired change.
Again
To acess your Playback volume control... you can either double click the speaker icon near the Clock
Then click the Advanced Button to open another window
In this window you can make sure the '1 Digital Output Only' selection is NOT checked.
or
Go to your control panel.
click Sound and Audio Devices
Under the Volume Tab you will find Device Volume slider.
Near it is an Advance Button.
Click the ADvance button to Open up Playback Volume window.
Underneath the Playback Volume Slider you will see an Advance button
Click this to reveal Advanced Controls for Playback Control window.
Now you can see the 1 Digital Output Only.
Make sure it is unchecked.
Hope this helped. :\
Good luck!

common problem if you have a repair - especially mother board
yes check you sound properties - and ensure that they are all set to max and not muted - (in the control panel)
ensure the volume control wheel on you laptop is set to full - if you have a laptop of course
try using some headphones - if the sound works through the head phones - then you may have a speaker problem
BUT THIS USUALLY WORKS -
if you can not hear any sounds - try this
click start
right click on my computer > click properties
select hardware then device manager
click on the plus next to sound video and game controllers
look for something like realteq 97 or a sound chip
right click on it then uninstall
now go back to the top and click on the plus next to the ata/atapti controllers
uninstall the ide primary controller
now allow the system to restart
then the system will ask to restart again
see if this works

On the desktop or the start menu, right click on "my Computer"
Then Left click on "manage"
In the computer management window double click on "device Manager"
Click on "sound, video, game controllers" Is there a yellow question mark? try right clicking on the device and updating the drivers.
Make sure you do not have the speakers muted in the sound settings under the control panel.

is it plugged into the green socket on the back of the PC? Try plugging in head phones and seeing if it works. If they do then its the speakers if not its the PC.
If it still does not work make sure none of the sounds are muted (double click the speaker icon in the sytem tray (down by your clock).
If that still does not work do you have sound of of any program? If all programs are not producing sound it could be a driver issue. Reinsall that.
Other than that take it back to teh guy that repaired it and tell him he broke something and he should fix it (for free)

Check your sound drivers. They probably were not propertly installed.
To check go to ....
Right Click My Computer ==> Click on Properties
Select Hardware Tab ==> Click on Device Manager
If you find an icon (image) that is a question mark, it means that the drivers where not propertly installed.
Go to your computer manufacturer's website and go to driver downloads and look for your missing drivers. All you have to do is enter your computer model.
Good Luck!!!

Your soundcard drivers may be corrupt. bypass into the gadget supervisor (precise click My pc -> homes -> Hardware -> gadget supervisor button) and look under the 'Sound, video and game controllers' area to work out if your card has a yellow asterix next to it. If it does double click it and notice what the status says.

If you are using REALTIC onboard soundcard from Intel, then I suggest, you switch the speaker on your computer and re-install your soundcard driver. I always encountered that in our net cafe with 35 computers. Try it!!!

Try reseating your sound card. If that isnt it, it might be a driver or possibly a conflict with other hardware interrupts.
