Is there a cheaper way to cure cradle cap than to buy lotions/creams especially designed for it? That stuff is just way too expensive.

When bathing your child before washing his or her hair put a little baby oil on her scalp and rub it in. after it is rubbed in take a baby comb and GENTLY brush her hair back. You will have to do this several times. After you have combed her hair several times you will then wash her hair with a mild shampoo, johnson and johnson works great but make sure you use very little and when you are done make sure all of the shampoo is out. DO NOT wash her hair on a daily basis as you are removing all of her natural oils, I recommend only washing it every couple of days. Good luck, it worked for me on my twin 7 month old daughters, I really hope it works for you.

I would massage baby oil into my baby's head about 20-30 minutes before giving her a bath.

That way it has some time to be absorbed into the scalp, but it's not on too long cause you wash it out soon after applying it. Also the stimulation from the massage help to release the natural oils that are under the skin.

The other thing that you can do is not wash your baby's hair every time you bathe him/her. Just like with us, excessive shampooing can irritate the scalp and dry it out.

Good luck and hang in there...one day you'll wake up and realize that the cradle cap went away without you even noticing! : )

Use Dove Moisturizing Body Wash. It's gentle and not as messy as oils. My pediatrician told me to use a dandruff shampoo like Head and Shoulders when my daughter had cradle cap so I did and it was gone during the bath but always came back by morning. She had cradle cap until she was about 1 year old. My husband's cousin told me to try Dove bar soap on our son. I already had the Dove Moisturizing Body Wash so I tried that. My son's cradle cap cleared up within a couple of weeks using that. Good luck!

My daughter had cradle cap and I tried all the different home remedies to get rid of it. I found that the best remedy is to leave it alone! Although some of the treatments will temporarily get rid of it, it will come right back! Your baby will outgrow it. A comb helps remove the dead skin, but honestly, it will go away!

Whatever you do don't use baby oil, it can make it worse. I used Selsun Blue on my baby and it worked. Just rub it on the baby head for a few minutes and rinse carefully to make sure you don't get any in their eyes. Do this a few times a week until the cradle cap is gone

I'll tell you how to get rid of it, and it's free! Do nothing to it. When you bathe your baby and wash his hair, rub it gently with the baby shampoo and soft wash cloth. Rinse it and run a fine tooth comb through it. Don't put any kinds of creams, oils, lotions, ointments, etc. on your baby's head. All this will do is make his hair greasy and clog the pores on his scalp with grease/oil, making his hair grow slower.

Cradle cap is just dead skin...it's not harmful, painful, itchy, or otherwise bothersome to your baby. While it is unsightly, it will go away on it's own. You can also comb your baby's hair with a fine tooth comb while his hair is dry, to loosen any large flakes, then just brush them out. Don't dig or scrape at his scalp to loosen them though...it'll peel off when it's ready. :)

A little bit of olive oil! Just put a little bit on the baby's head and leave on for about 20 min before bath time and then wash it out and comb it gently with a soft-bristle baby brush. It will take several times to get it all (NOT in one day of course!) but it will do the trick.

if you have olive oil around the house you can use that...but its just as expensive....regular baby oil also works...just put it in your babys hair and take a comb and comb his hair backwards to get the dry skin off........i never bought stuff for cradle cap and my son has only had it once....after that i always put a small drop of oil on his scalp to keep it from getting dry.

I use baby oil thirty minutes before a bath and then after bathing baby, I use a soft brush on the scalp. It helps a lot.

I found just washing it with a good quality baby shampoo and brushing his hair helped get rid of it within a few days. No need to put strange stuff in your baby's hair
