Dusty Baker should be fired just for making this comment:

"I think walks are overrated unless you can run... If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps. But the guy who walks and can't run, most of the time they're clogging up the bases for somebody who can run."

Seriously, that ranks as one of the stupidest things I've ever heard anyone associated with baseball say, and is especially stupid considering the Cubs' failings on offense.

Or maybe Baker should be fired because he has no understanding of the importance of not killing his pitchers' arms, despite the fact that Kerry Wood and Mark Prior will never reach the heights they expected.

Or maybe Baker should be fired because he was actually enough of an idiot to allow his toddler son to be the batboy in that World Series game where J.T. Snow saved him from what would have been serious pain.

Or maybe Baker should be fired because he reacts horribly any time someone in the media dares to question his boneheaded tactics.

I liked Baker when he played the game, but he's a horribly overrated manager who has no idea what to do in his current situation. Keeping him around is just another reason why the Cubs will continue to be the sad sacks of baseball.

I hope that's just a rumor. I read an article this morning where a writer suggested (just like you've stated) that the Cubs need to stand behind Baker and give him a 2 year extension. I find that preposterous. The team is in shambles and a change is in order.

I just checked the cubs site and they have nothing about this. Also just listened to WGN sports and again no reports about Dusty Gate 2006.

I hope so. I'm a Cardinals fan and Baker is the worse manager in baseball, so I hope he stays in Chicago forever.
