What are your thoughts on the situation? Has Israel overstepped? Do Lebanese Prime Minister Sinoira's conditions for the deployment of the Lebanese army give tacit support to Hezbollah's actions?

To understand the Israeli culture, you have to go back to 1949 when Israel was founded. It was recognized as a country by the United Nations, but the Arab countries in the area refused to acknowledge their sovereignty and have literally spent the last five decades trying to destroy the "country". Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt -- all of these countries have declared war on Israel, and many of them are technically STILL at war with Israel. The Israelis are in a precarious position because they are literally surrounded by enemies who would love nothing more than to wipe them out. While their military and diplomatic policies may seem extreme to most Americans, the attitude of the Israelis is that they are fighting for their very right to live, so they don't mess around when it comes to the Palestinians or the Lebanese, or anyone else for that matter.

Prime Minister Sinoira's handling of the situation seems to be from a "rock and a hard place" position -- he wants to show a posture of defending and protecting the Lebanese people, but at the same time he doesn't want to give the appearance of supporting Hezbollah (and thereby siding against Israel). He's not stupid -- he knows if the Israelis get pissed off with him it's going to get even uglier than it already has.

As far as I am aware, there has been a UN Resolution ordering Lebanon to dismantle Hezbollah and they have never done it. I think Israel is absolutely justified. They have dealt with constant terrorist attacks against their civilians for years. They are finally doing something about it. They made a show of faith in giving Gaza back to the Palestinians in an attempt to end the war. Palestinians then claimed that the jihad must be working, so they would keep it up. It is clear that there is no way to negotiate with Muslim extremists. They will stop at nothing but the death of all Infedels.

In addition, I think that Israel should not even consider doing a "prisoner exchange" with Hezbollah, Syria, or Iran. Like I said before, dealing with these people only emboldens them.

In a proper international, no. yet this is a procedures from a proper international. They understand that Iran is behind the present conflicts with the Palestinians and Lebanesse. Iran needs warfare with Israel and they have it. Iran has nuclear ability and Israel is conscious this besides. Israel movements are construction as a lot as an attack on Iran. Israel is able to one of those strike. even as this happens all hell breaks free, actually.

Overstepped. We could possibly apply Israel's reasoning to Mexico. Invasion, tunnels, kidnapping of federal officers. Think US ought to attack them?
