Go into the control panel, click on the system icon, go to the hardware tab, and open the device manger
Look and see if you have anything in the hardware listing that has a yellow exclamation point or a red x on it. Or if you have a listing for the AOL modem. Right click on the item and uninstall it.
Reboot the PC with cable modem unplugged from your PC.
Reinstall the software, but not plug in the modem unitl it tells you to.
If your modem was plugged in before the drivers were loaded for it, Windows may not have correctly detected the modem. Until it is removed Windows will not redetect it.

Hope that does it.

usually what you need to do first is leave the computer connected to the modem, the regular one. install the cd and begin installation. when it comes to the wireless router or modem, the computer should tell you when to connect it. after doing so, you can then finish out the installation and then hook everything up normally and have it working too.

usually during the inital part of the installation of the software, things like drivers and IP addresses are downloaded from a server prior to connecting the wireless modem. if you connect the wireless modem before this stage, that;s why you get those error messages bcuz the installation software wasn't able to get the info it neede first in order to configure the new modem.

I had the same problem with a 2wire wireless modem when I switched to DSL. My problem was that I was trying to install it with the ethernet cable, and although the cable itself was fine, for some reason it wasn't detecting it. I switched to installing it with the USB cable and it worked beautifully. Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you're still having problems email me... I don't understand what you mean by "install it on my laptop". You don't install wireless modems (is there such a thing?) on a computer. It's another piece of hardware. Also, is it a modem or a router? Never heard of a wireless modem.
