in college, i have taken subjects relevant to the medical field, so i do apologize for my lack of knowledge when it comes to: business, computers etc.

however, i am still thinking of taking a different path. anybody here work with computers? what are the job titles and what do they do? and how is the market for that job description? is it a routine? like a 9-to-5 kind of office job? any information would be nice.

I make over $50,000/yr as a systems analyst for a large financial services firm. My primary responsibilities include: providing technical and functional support for end users; troubleshooting and providing optimal programmatic solutions; developing and installing new systems; maintaining existing systems; serving as a liaison between developers and clients/end users (strong communication skills is a must even for tech positions); entering security transactions on the company's trade-capture system; overseeing transactions as they go through the trade life cycle; writing documentation/manuals; flirting with the hot, blond girl across the way; and more.

Normally, I work from 8 AM - 5 PM, though occasionally I will need to work some overtime. I am exempt from the FLSA's overtime pay requirement, but my employer does provide me with extra time off in exchange for my working extra hours. I wouldn't say it is much of a routine... or mundane... as my position requires a broad IT skill-set, my assignments often vary from day to day, and superior problem-solving skills and creativity are needed for many projects.

As for the job market, it was fairly strong when I graduated the other year (I had numerous job offers upon graduation, and I graduated with a meager 3.0 from a state university); I don't know whether or not it will have changed by the time you graduate.

E-mail me if you have any questions, and good luck with your career search!

I do database management and data entry, my job is pretty routine. Actually, my hours are 7-3:30, so if you don't mind getting up early it's so great to have a long evening after work! There are tons of different kinds of computer jobs, obviously, like design(fun if you're an artistic type), IT, which is the technical stuff to fix everything, but if you want to take a different path I wouldn't really suggest computers unless you're really interested because the '9-5' can get kinda boring :) Good luck!

I'm currently building my business as an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay and am looking for sharp, positive women to join my team. There are four reasons women become MK consultants: 1. Money, 2. Flexibility, 3. Fun, 4. Hope. The starter kit is $100 and comes with over $300 worth of product, so worst case scenario - it's the biggest compact you ever bought. Best case scenario - it could change your life. There's no pressure, no quotas, no boss. You will meet tons of great, positive girlfriends. I'm having so much fun and earning great money!

To see if the Mary Kay opportunity is right for you, take the Life Can Be Good Quiz on my website:

If you are not passionate about computing find a more stable career. I am in information technology now and there are so many certifications that you could get and the market is hard to get into if you don't get your foot in the door through internships and other work experiences. Some companies want certifications, some want 10+ years experience, and some want advanced degrees. There are very few entry level jobs. It is tough. Layoffs are high in the technology world.

Wow, you made me reflect a bit. I just pressed my youngest to get into a school that applies children from beginning middle and high school to focus on advance science medicine and to be fair art. I really want her to get a gos education and I pressed her to get it together to pass the entrance exams. She did and is doing well so far. Well your interest in psychology is a good one. This is a career that can help many, you can also offer help based on your faith. So those of the same faith can come to you for help and you can guide them. You are the one who has to live in your skin, you must be comfortable there. If you do not want to live in the skin of a Dr. then you can not as you will always wonder what if. Every time you are unhappy as a Dr. it will be their fault as you will say what if I became what I wanted to become then I could be happy going into work today.

why aren't you interested in the medical field?? Medicine is incredible and has multiple areas for advancement and great income.. I have been a nurse for 12 years. I love nursing and have done office nursing as well. I am currently an ICU nurse making over $60,000.00 a year and am also taking classes to get my MSN so I can teach college nursing.. I can't imagine doing anything else. Good luck in whatever you decide. Take care, D.

I work at a consulting company in MPLS, and if you can learn .NET or Java J2ee(not just java), you can make upwards of 50/hr after 2-3 years of good experience(80+ after 5). the market is never going to go away, but neither is healthcare.
