Minerology, and thus composition, do influence morphology. Basaltic lavas (olivine, pyroxene, plagioclase) are usually flat sheild type because of low viscosity. Andesites (pyroxene, plagioclase, amphibole, biotite) have higher viscosity and form stratovolcaoes. Rhyolites (quartz, k-feldspar, muscovite) are the highest viscosity and form domes or nothing (biggest eruptions... just a caldera!)

yes QFL has covered it it's a bit like a recipe the different ingredients produce diferent results when baked in an oven
